PSA granted license to test self-driving vehicle in Chongqing

UMS Institute | 2019/2/1

PSA Peugeot Citroen obtained a license this week from local authorities to test an autonomous vehicle on roads in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing.

The vehicle is a self-driving Peugeot 4008 crossover, which was assembled at PSA’s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, according to a photo released by the French automaker.

PSA has been testing autonomous vehicles in France since 2015. The challenge in adapting its autonomous driving technology for China lies in the differing local environment, infrastructure, map system and road users from those in Europe, PSA said.

Three European luxury car brands -- BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz -- received permits earlier from other Chinese cities to test self-driving vehicles on local roads.
